This activity comes from a volunteer who did a lot of crafts in Russia. It is a great way to encourage individuality and incorporate everyone's creature into the class project.
Activity/Idea name:
Imaginary Aquarium
Brief description of the placement where you work (please include ages, number of people, languages spoken, other etc):
We worked at a hospital for kids in Russia and wanted to do something special for the children. We created an aquarium out of a cardboard box and had each child create a sea creature that will be featured in the interactive aquarium!
Goal of the activity:
Use your creative sense! Then allow for a lasting interactive experience.

Use your creative sense! Then allow for a lasting interactive experience.
Required resources:
- Paper/felt/cardboard- something to create your creatures out of
- Googly eyes/ pipe cleaners (again for the creatures)
- Cardboard box
- String
- buttons
- Affix a cardboard box to the wall, with the opening facing outward.
- Cut slits in to the top wall of the box (refer to picture).
- Have each child create a sea creature using materials found in the resource center. Attach the creature to a string (or better yet, see-through fishing line)
- Place the creature in the box, and thread the string through the slits in the box and tie to a button on the outside to secure.
- You move the buttons side-to-side to make the creatures "swim"
